an Advent yarn ...

I thought with Christmas virtually upon us, that maybe this week might be an opportune time to share with you a beautiful yarn I recently purchased on Etsy ... with next Christmas in mind. This yarn has totally inspired me to design something which will do it justice - and which I may start thinking about now - but build on in 2018. It will definitely be a process!

So get an eyeful of this beautiful skein from Mothy and the Squid! Yes, Mothy and the Squid is the name of the Etsy store where I made my purchase, and the store is owned by Indie Dyer, Jillian Gabrielsen of Glasgow in the UK. If you visit the store online you will find out more about Jillian and her yarns, and of course the reason behind the intriguing store name. Her yarns are beautiful!

And before I go any further it would be remiss of me not to tell you how I found this special yarn, so I would also like to draw your attention to a young New Zealand podcaster, Beth of Rosey Knits, who has produced three podcasts on YouTube and is hopefully working on another one - lol! In her 3rd episode Beth reeled me in well and truly, when she became very enthusiastic showing off a skein of yarn she had purchased from Jillian. You guessed it - I was soon sitting at my computer ready to explore the Etsy store concerned. And not long after that, surprise, surprise - I found myself hitting the purchase button for that very same colourway! Do check out Rosey Knits for yourself, and show her some support. She is very easy to watch and I love how she makes it so very easy to see everything she is working on or has purchased. Keep it up Beth!

Back to the yobject of my desire. Yarn + object = new yarn term, maybe?

The yarn itself is classed as a superwash sock yarn. With 400 metres per 100gm skein, it is named 'Christmas Tree' - for reasons I believe might be rather obvious. It is a Donegal Sock, 4ply merino yarn - 85%, with rainbow neps - 15%. Here (again) is the link on Etsy should you wish to investigate further, although I strongly advise you to act quickly if you are interested.

This item did not take long to arrive either. I placed my order in New Zealand on 3 November and it arrived at my home on 14 November. Beautifully skeined and lovely to gaze upon, I even considered featuring it as a decoration in my home this year. But since I would have to make sure it isn't in the sun - which could be rather difficult now that summer has decided to finally show up, that is probably not the best idea! The little progress keeper also included in my package was rather a lovely gesture!

The postage to New Zealand is very reasonable, and if your interest is piqued like mine was, then remember to follow Mothy and the Squid on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date with any news, discounts and other special offers. And one day - I may even be able to show you what this lovely skein becomes - stay tuned!
