City Chick Slouch

I'm not a city chick, as I haven't been a chick nor lived in the city for quite some time now! But when I had some yarn leftover from my Little Acorns Blanket that I decided might look rather pretty in a hat, the City Chick Slouch was born! Named thus because after starting out as one thing and ending up as quite something else, it reminded me a lot of the Pill Box Hat, a very popular mid 20th Century style of hat usually worn with very smart looking outfits.

I had not intended it to look quite like it does, but because I really rather like the way it turned out I am now hoping to revive the look! You never know!

The City Chick Slouch is knitted in the round on a circular needle (only one size used) and features some interesting textures including bobbles and slipped stitches. It features a simple rolled edge brim and is knitted from the bottom up. A truly comfortable and warm accessory. This pattern is best suited to the knitter with some experience in the above techniques. Instructions for 2 adult sizes are included and there are 4 pages to the download. The instructions are clear and simple to understand, with rows that are worked the same all detailed together in the following manner: Rows 15: 17: 23: 49: ..... (p1, k1) to end of row. (example only). This hat was designed using 2 x 50 gram balls of Naturally Yarns, Loyal DK.

The purchase options for all my designs may be found by clicking here. From the page that then opens you can choose your preferred platform from which to view and purchase any of the designs listed.

PS ... As already noted in the above link to the Pillbox Hat, fashion icons such as Jackie Kennedy helped to make it stylish, mid 20th Century. Audrey Hepburn was another. I think maybe both ladies would have liked this hat, and maybe even had a go at knitting it if the pattern had been available to them back then! We have it on good authority that Audrey Hepburn was a knitter as there are quite a few photos online of her knitting at various stages of her life. I am not sure if Jackie Kennedy was, since I can find no such online evidence. But not everyone knits in public, and I'm guessing it might have been frowned upon if she tried had even tried to!

I love how Audrey looks so relaxed here, knitting AND talking at the same time. Clearly she wasn't counting stitches! This photo was taken on the set of The Unforgiven, a 1960 movie she starred in.
