Dawn Breaker Infinity Scarf

Back in August I entered the first competition run by Lincraft NZ on facebook. Imagine my delight when I found out I had won the prize of five Lincraft Cakes! I thought I had finished with Cake! Only in the fibre sense, of course! I believed I would be working on designing other items - but when I won these I decided to concentrate on more one cake designs, and keep the momentum going. You know the drill , 'Strike while the iron is hot' and 'all that jazz'! Wow - three sayings in one sentence! If you click on each of them in turn, you will find out the origins of those sayings. Consider that a bonus from me to you, and an interesting addition to your list of, 'one day they might be useful' facts!

The Dawn Breaker Infinity Scarf - which, even though it is designed using a Lincraft Cake, I include as part of my Caron Cake Range of designs ... has six different, mostly textured stitch patterns, and also includes a very small amount of lacework. You will need to have some experience of slipped stitches, and basic lace knitting knowledge to knit it. You also need to be able to ... read, and count - preferably without someone talking to you while you are doing so! There are 6 pages to the download and each section of the design is clearly laid out for you to follow. It is knitted straight up and then seamed.
Lincraft Cakes, to all intents and purposes, appear to be the the Australian version of Caron Cakes. They have the same acrylic/wool composition, recommended needle size, length and tension/gauge. The only thing they don't seem to have in common is that some of the colour combos in the Lincraft range are not in the Caron Cake range, and vice versa. Many combos are the same, but I could not find an identical Caron Cake in this instance.
This one is known as Berry Muffin and when I saw it I was reminded of the colours on the British Flag. Since the beekeeper and I belong to a Classic British Car Club here in New Zealand, I decided that this item would be named accordingly. Every winter our branch of the club has a rally that pretty much ends at dawn. Or is at last mid way through by then!

It is affectionately known (by some) as the Dawn Breaker!!
I have been on one of the Dawn Breaker Rallies, believe it or not! I shall leave it to your imagination as to why there have not been others graced with my presence. If I ever do go on another of these rallies though, then I am sure this item will be accompanying me. If I don't, then it will accompany me on rallies more in sync with my body clock! The car on the far right of the picture, at the back is ours. Yes, that's correct - it's the only one facing the right way for a quick getaway! And that was taken in 2016, the year I finally decided to go!

There were seven colours in my cake. Because the beginning and the end were shorter in length I used the same stitch pattern in both areas. The two ends in my cake were of a similar colour, but not the same. Because these two areas were to be joined with a seam to complete, knitting the same stitch pattern worked very well. The fact that the colours were slightly different did not detract. All of this has been noted in the instructions. I allowed for cutting the yarn in this design and found that I needed to cut mine in a couple of places. This item uses the whole cake but the length is such that cutting the yarn where you need to does not alter the outcome. If you leave enough to weave in securely all should be well. The finished item (6mm needles) is approximately 40 cm (15.75 '') in Width and 170 cm (67'') in Circumference (after joining).
So there you have it - the Dawn Breaker Cowl. Another useful pattern, with enough variety in it's design that it may also be adapted however you wish.
A bit like my Western Bay Infinity Scarf design ... except the Dawn Breaker is slightly wider, and shorter.
