Lollipop Infinity/Scarf/Flower
When I saw the colour combination in this Yarn Cake, I thought of bright and happy days, fun and carefree times. And also sweet treats, like lollipops, cake, dessert ... all of which are generally considered bad for us, but often deemed ok in moderation!
The beekeeper thought the colours reminded him of Neopolitan Ice Cream, a sweet treat from the good old days! had to break it to him that Neopolitan has been used as a design name several times over. Not to be dissuaded, he then suggested Napoli. Again I had to disappoint. It took me a while to find a name that hadn't already been used! It was hard, let me assure you!
It can actually be the hardest thing, apart from designing an item and then putting that design into words - to come up with a suitably appropriate name for said design. I was so pleased to eventually come up with this one - so, let's move on ...

Both items in this design may be made from the one Cake, in this case a Lincraft Cake, in the colourway Melon. Lincraft Cakes, to all intents and purposes, are the Australian cousins of the American Caron Cakes, with the same acrylic/wool blend composition, recommended needle size, length and tension/gauge.
There are 5 pages to the download. The scarf may be seamed and worn as an infinity scarf (doubled or trebled), or left in it's original knitted state and worn as a 'normal' scarf. Either choice may also make use of the crocheted flower - created to accessorise the accessory!
Knitted upwards in one long piece, the scarf features a simple, textured side edge and a beautiful, reversible lace pattern. Every row is a pattern row and there are 8 rows to the pattern repeat. I recommend it to those with experience at knitting lace. However, it is not a difficult pattern, so it should also be a bit of lightly challenging fun, for any enthusiastic, adventurous beginner who wants to give it a go.
All instructions are written and there is a good number of photos included in the pattern. The scarf measures 24 cm (9.5'') wide and 183 cm (72'') long ... and thus is a good size for a 'normal' scarf, or an infinity option. The flower has 4 rounds and measures 8.5 cm (3.3'') diameter. The crochet instructions include UK and USA terminology. It is very quick to whip up. The scarf is knitted on 6 mm needles (USA 10) and the flower is crocheted with a 4mm ( USA G - 6) hook.
As can be seen in the photo below, the scarf has 5 longer sections, bordered by 2 shorter sections. This is because the beginning and end portions of my cake, were shorter in length to the rest of it, which can be a common occurrence in cake yarns. Also, some cakes have more colours in them than others. This one only had four colours in total.

When I got to the last colour of my cake I knitted the length of that section the same as the beginning, shorter section - which also meant I had more than enough left to crochet a flower. I actually ended up making two flowers, because there was enough yarn to do so.
So there you have it - my fun, lace make. I hope you like it enough to want to have a go at knitting (and crocheting) these items, either for yourself - or someone special in your life. Remember it's reversible, so you have yet another option - that of deciding which side you choose to feature when you wear it.
